Identity
Introduction
Wikipedia's definition of "[A] cyborg, [from] cybernetic
[and] organism, ... designate[s] a creature which is a mixture of organic and
mechanical parts... to enhance the abilities of an organism by using
technology " (Reference.com, n.d.). Therefore the use of technology by a human effectively creates a
cyborg. Whenever you interact with any technology you are likely to leave a
trail of information relating to your own identity. Monk (1998), describes how
this information is called a digital effigy of ourselves, i.e. elements
of your own identity. Enter the on-line, virtual world and you can create a virtual
identity or a persona that is an opposite of your real life self. Biotechnology
makes extensive use of digital images of with users refer to as if they had an
identity of their own.
